With your support, we can grow our network of welcoming schools and make sure every child seeking safety received the support they need to thrive.
Schools stand at the heart of our communities, uniquely positioned to welcome children seeking sanctuary and their families. When schools become sanctuaries of belonging, understanding, and compassion, they don’t just educate—they transform entire communities into places of welcome and safety for those who need it most.
School by school, the Schools of Sanctuary programme empowers schools to effectively support children seeking safety and foster cultures of welcome. Help us to achieve this – donate now.
We are a network of over 1000 schools, nurseries and Sixth Forms across the UK and every day we receive enquiries from new schools or requests for support from schools receiving their first refugee or asylum-seeking child.
Every penny you give will help us to ensure the sustainability of our work with schools, as well as providing vital resources, expert advice, unique opportunities, bespoke events, and the practical support schools need to build expertise and provision to support students seeking safety and combat misinformation around migration – and much, much more.
£50 helps one UK school access free resources, expert advice, events and unique opportunities to improve school practice and ensure children seeking safety feel safe and welcomes in school
£400 enables one UK school to benefit from our rigorous but supportive award process and become a an awarded School of Sanctuary
£1000 can help us open the Schools of Sanctuary award scheme in a new part of the UK by onboarding and training a new Local Lead – meaning tens more schools can work towards the Schools of Sanctuary award
Awarded School of Sanctuary? Show your support!
Unlike other school programmes and award schemes which can charge hundreds and even thousands of pounds, we don’t want price to be a barrier for schools. We believe every school should be able to access the resources, opportunities and expert advice they need to ensure every child, especially those seeking safety, can thrive in school. But we need every school in our network to play their part in supporting this vision – making a donation when they receive the award and thinking of us when planning fundraising activities. Every penny goes to supporting and growing our network of welcoming schools across the UK.
We ask every school that achieves the School of Sanctuary award to make a donation to safeguard the sustainability of the award and support programme. We suggest that primary schools donate a minimum of £75, secondary schools donate £105 and independent schools donate £300 on receipt of a successful award – as the award lasts three years, this could be as little as £25 per year of the award!

Want to fundraise for Schools of Sanctuary?
Whilst the donations from schools as they receive the award help us anticipate our funding for the coming year, to secure our long-term future we need schools to support our wider fundraising efforts too. To help with your efforts, have a look at our fundraising resources and ideas.
As a tiny team, every bit on money raised means the world to us and will go a long way to helping us continue to grow our network of welcoming schools, support teachers and ensure every child feels welcomed and able to succeed in school, including those forced to flee.
