Celebrating Our School’s Migration Stories

At Oscott Manor School in Birmingham, students know their school community has been enriched thanks to the contribution of migrants.

Inspired by the Tooting Blue Plaque Initiative which aimed to celebrate the history of migrants in Tooting and was the springboard for this year’s International Migrants’ Day celebration, students at Oscott Manor School decided to bring the activity a little closer to school by looking at the many migrant staff and teachers that support them every day.

Students interviewed staff about where they had come from and why they had travelled to the UK, making sure to thank them for all they have done for them and their peers. They designed a Blue Plaque to recognise their contributions, now proudly displayed in school.

What a wonderful way to celebrate migrants within our schools!
